The Chief Coroner for Saskatchewan and his/her representatives make enquiries into unexplained and/or unnatural deaths. The coroner's inquest does not determine criminal or civil responsibility for the death.

Coroners use a variety of professional resources to determine:

  • who died;
  • where and when he/she died;
  • how he/she died; and
  • the circumstances of the death.

There are 165 coroners in Saskatchewan, plus the Chief Coroner.  In Saskatchewan, coroners are not necessarily doctors.
